Calming Your Fussy Baby Through Massage

July 9th, 2011

We all want a calm and restful baby, but the reality is, babies have a tendency to fuss! There is a great way that you can help your baby stop fussing and calm down, and that is through the use of massage.

Massaging your baby can work wonders, and it’s not just because it is calming and comforting. A massage can also help when your baby is having stomach or gas pains, and even for those who suffer from colic. It’s easy to massage your baby to the point of blissful quietness. You can rub the abdominal area around in a gentle circular motion. You do not want to push too hard, you just want to push hard enough to touch the skin. This can help calm a baby who may be having abdominal issues.

You can also massage your baby by gently rubbing the back, arms and legs. Most babies will love the touch of their mom or dad’s hands on their body, as the feel and smell of their parent is comforting. Your baby will benefit not only from the physical benefits of the massage, but emotional ones, as well. So the next time your baby fusses, stop what you are doing and massage. You will be surprised at how well it can work!
