Breaking The Smoking Habit With Acupuncture Treatments

July 11th, 2011

Each year millions of Americans look for ways to stop smoking. Many will turn to medications that at times can cause more harm than good. Other will choose lozenges and gum’s with minimal success rates. One aspect that many may overlook is acupuncture. Acupuncture is a great tool in kicking the smoking habit. There are two acupuncture techniques used as a stop smoking aid. Let’s take a deeper look at each technique.

Laser acupuncture is a new technique being used. This technique is pain and drug free. There are also no side effects from this technique. Laser acupuncture works by increasing serotonin, endorphins and dopamine. This increase can help with the withdraw symptoms of stopping smoking. It is estimated that only one treatment is needed to help with cravings and withdraw symptoms. It is important to remember that it can take 48 hours for effects to be felt.

The other acupuncture used is tradition Chinese acupuncture. Unlike laser acupuncture, traditional acupuncture uses small needles instead of lasers. These needles are place on “hot spots” around the body. They are mainly placed on the ear lobes. Also with traditional acupuncture, the patient may need 4 or 5 treatments for effects to take place.
